Egyptian and Gambian Military Leaders Discuss Cooperation in Cairo

Cairo: Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa met on Thursday, May 7, 2026, with Gambian Chief of Defense Staff Lieutenant General Mamat Cham and his accompanying delegation, who are currently visiting Egypt. An official reception ceremony was held at the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Defense where military bands played the national anthems of both countries.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on regional and international developments and their impact on African security and stability. Both sides engaged in discussions to enhance military cooperation between the Egyptian and Gambian armed forces. Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa emphasized the strong partnership between the Egyptian Armed Forces and friendly nations, highlighting the growing cooperation that serves the mutual military interests of both countries.

The Gambian Chief of Defense Staff lauded Egypt's role in consolidating regional stability and expressed his desire for further joint cooperation in the coming period. The meeting saw the participation of several military leaders from both countries, underscoring the importance of the discussions in promoting international military collaboration and addressing security challenges in Africa.
