Ramallah: Egypt's Ambassador in Ramallah Ihab Suleiman affirmed during his meeting with Hussein Al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Egypt's full support for the Palestinian National Authority as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. The importance of empowering the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities across all Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, was also highlighted.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting underscored support for the technocratic National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. This support aims to create an environment that enables the Palestinian Authority to carry out its role in the Strip. The meeting also reaffirmed the geographic, political, and legal unity of all Palestinian territories.
Discussions between the two sides included Egyptian efforts related to monitoring the implementation of the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan. Enhancing the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip to help alleviate citizens' suffering and strengthen the emergency humanitarian response was emphasized. Additionally, ongoing joint coordination regarding the Rafah crossing was addressed.
In this context, the Egyptian ambassador stressed Egypt's categorical rejection of proposals aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause through the displacement of the Palestinian people from their land, whether in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank.
The meeting also discussed ways to address Israeli violations in the West Bank, including the expansion of settlements and settler attacks across Palestinian territories, as well as the financial blockade imposed on the Palestinian Authority.
The importance of seizing the opportunity created by advancing the current peace track in Gaza was emphasized. This includes launching a political process aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
For his part, Hussein Al-Sheikh stressed the significance of continued Egyptian-Palestinian coordination. He expressed appreciation for Egypt's historic role in supporting the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian National Authority, as well as the sincere efforts of the Egyptian political leadership in establishing peace and stability in the region.
