Egypt Welcomes Coordination with South Africa under G20 Presidency to Advance GFS Reform

Cairo: Egypt has expressed its willingness to coordinate with South Africa during its presidency of the G20 to advance the restructuring of the Global Financial System (GFS) and make progress in development financing. Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania el-Mashat emphasized the pivotal roles that both Egypt and South Africa play as key nations in Africa, influencing the sustainable development agenda on both regional and international levels.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the statement was made during a bilateral meeting on July 27, 2025, between Rania el-Mashat and Maropene Lydia Ramokgopa, South Africa's Minister in Presidency Responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation. The meeting aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and aligning their perspectives on regional and international development issues. This meeting took place on the sidelines of Egypt's participation in the G20 Development Ministers' Meetings, which South Africa is hosting and chairing in July. El-Mashat expressed her gratitude to South Africa for inviting Egypt to the G20 meetings and highlighted Egypt's active role in G20 discussions over the past five years, underscoring its significant contribution to global development efforts.
