Cairo:Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has announced an upcoming national housing initiative spearheaded by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. The initiative, revealed during the "Egypt 2026 Forum," aims to roll out and deliver a comprehensive housing program over the next four years, featuring rental housing along with social and middle-income housing units to ensure accessible shelter for all citizens.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Prime Minister highlighted that the state has either completed or is currently implementing nearly two million housing units under initiatives such as "Sakan Misr," "Dar Misr," and "Janna." These projects provide long-term, accessible payment plans up to 20 years, offering rates that are unmatched in the private real estate sector.
A strategic shift under the directives of the President involves the revival of state-backed public rental housing as a complement to homeownership models. This shift is aimed at aligning with housing markets in developed economies, where rental units make up 50% to 60% of the market, providing a vital option to cater to diverse income levels and curb the spread of informal settlements.
In his address, Prime Minister Madbouly reaffirmed the government's commitment to comprehensive social safety nets. These include housing support, food subsidies, healthcare, education, and social pensions. The government has pledged to expand state budget allocations over the next four years to protect low- and middle-income households.
