Egypt, Syria Hold Talks on Enhancing Bilateral Ties and Regional Stability


Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty announced he received a phone call from Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani to discuss bilateral relations and fast-moving regional developments.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf stated that the two ministers reviewed ways to advance ties across various fields, particularly focusing on the economic and trade sectors. Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s commitment to supporting Syria’s reconstruction efforts and emphasized the importance of building on the results of a recent visit by an Egyptian economic delegation to Syria to further mutual interests.

The conversation also addressed the escalating tensions in the region, particularly concerning recent developments related to Iran. Both ministers discussed Egyptian and regional efforts to mitigate these tensions.

Additionally, the talks included discussions on the Palestinian issue and developments in Le
banon. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s condemnation of ongoing Israeli actions and the ground incursion in southern Lebanon, citing these as violations of Lebanon and Syria’s sovereignty. He warned of the potential repercussions such escalations could have on regional peace and security.
