Egypt Rises as a Key Player in Global Fertilizer Market

Suez: Egypt has emerged as a prominent global producer and exporter of fertilizers, bolstered by its robust industrial foundation, consistent energy supplies, and rich natural resources, particularly phosphate, which are crucial for fertilizer production, stated Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Hashem highlighted that the fertilizer industry has received substantial government backing in recent times, as international crises and regional geopolitical tensions have led to disruptions in fertilizer production across various nations.

Hashem explained that the resilience of Egypt's fertilizer industry is largely due to stable energy supplies, which have enabled production facilities to operate without interruption, thereby meeting domestic needs and boosting export capabilities.

The Minister noted an increase in European demand for Egyptian fertilizers as several European plants ceased operations amid global energy challenges. This demand surge has enhanced the competitiveness of Egyptian fertilizers and solidified Egypt's standing in international markets.

In addition to fertilizers, Hashem identified sugar as a strategic commodity due to its impact on food security and market stability. He emphasized the ministry's efforts to enhance domestic sugar production and manufacturing efficiency to achieve self-sufficiency and expand exports.

These remarks were made during Hashem's visit to the Suez Governorate, where he toured a fertilizer plant and a sugar refinery within the Suez Canal Economic Zone, alongside Suez Governor Hany Rashad.
