Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo's support for international efforts to promote security, stability, and development in Somalia during talks with Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali. The two ministers reviewed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on African issues of mutual concern.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty called for further strengthening the strategic partnership between Egypt and Somalia, particularly in sectors such as security, trade, infrastructure, electricity, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural and food industries. He emphasized Egypt's unwavering support for Somalia's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as its national institutions.

Abdelatty reiterated Cairo's rejection of any unilateral actions that undermine Somalia's sovereignty or threaten its territorial integrity. The Minister also condemned the self-declared Somaliland region's opening of what Egypt described as a purported embassy in occupied Jerusalem, stating that the move violates international law and relevant U.N. resolutions and undermines the legal and historical status of the city.

Further, Abdelatty urged continued efforts to secure the release of Egyptian sailors who remain in captivity and called on Somali authorities to maintain their engagement in resolving the issue and ensuring the safe return of the Egyptian nationals. He also reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting Somalia's state-building efforts and strengthening its institutional capacity, particularly in combating terrorism and violent extremism.
