Egypt, Nine Countries Condemn Knesset’s Call to Impose Israeli Sovereignty Over the West Bank

Cairo: The Kingdom of Bahrain, The Arab Republic of Egypt, The Republic of Indonesia, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, The Federal Republic of Nigeria, The State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Trkiye, the United Arab Emirates, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have expressed strong condemnation of the Israeli Knesset's recent approval of a declaration that calls for imposing 'Israeli sovereignty' over the occupied West Bank. They consider this move to be a violation of international law and a breach of UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and 2334 (2016), which assert the invalidity of actions that seek to legitimize the occupation and related settlement activities in the territory occupied since 1967.According to State Information Service Egypt, the aforementioned parties have stressed that Israel does not possess sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territory and that this un ilateral action by Israel has no legal effect. They emphasize the unchanged legal status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly East Jerusalem, which is considered an integral part of it. They also note that Israeli actions are contributing to increased tension in the region, intensified by recent aggression in the Gaza Strip leading to a humanitarian crisis. The coalition calls on the international community, including the Security Council, to fulfill their legal and moral obligations. They urge efforts to halt Israel's illegal policies that aim to impose a reality by force, undermining the chances for a just and lasting peace and the two-state solution.Furthermore, they reaffirm their commitment to the two-state solution rooted in international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, advocating for the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
