Egypt Kicks Off World Cup 2026 Campaign with Draw Against Belgium

Egypt: Egypt opened their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Belgium in their Group G opener at Lumen Field in Seattle on Monday, June 15, 2026.According to State Information Service Egypt, the Pharaohs took the lead in the 19th minute when Emam Ashour unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the penalty area after being set up by Mohamed Salah, leaving Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with no chance.Belgium restored parity in the 66th minute through an own goal by Egypt defender Mohamed Hany.The result earned both Egypt and Belgium a point in Group G, ahead of the group's other opening fixture between Iran and New Zealand.Ashour's goal also marked Egypt's first-ever strike in FIFA World Cup history, handing the Pharaohs an early advantage before Belgium fought back to secure a share of the spoils.
