Cairo:The Takaful and Karama social protection program in Egypt now supports 4.7 million families, with its funding increased to a record EGP 54 billion, as announced by Ayman Abdel Mawgoud, the Spokesman for the Social Solidarity Ministry.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdel Mawgoud shared this information during a ministry-organized workshop for journalists. He clarified that the program's overall beneficiary count remains stable despite some families exiting, as new eligible families from a waiting list are enrolled within the allocated budget.

The program is entirely funded by the State's budget and provides conditional cash transfers rather than insurance pensions. Takaful focuses on families with children, requiring regular school attendance, while Karama supports older individuals and persons with disabilities based on specific eligibility criteria.

Abdel Mawgoud emphasized that any suspension or removal from the program adheres to regulations and a review of eligibility. Criteria include family income, living conditions, and the absence of conflicting income sources or assets. Non-cash services, such as school fee exemptions, are also part of the support offered.
