Egypt Engages Oxford Initiative On Human Capital Development

Cairo: Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al Mashat, held a meeting with the Director of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), Sabina Alkire, to discuss efforts to strengthen investment in human capital.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), held in Spain from 29 June to 3 July 2025. The two sides discussed ways to enhance human development and expand investment in human capital as a means to improve living standards and promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

The meeting also covered the Global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), which Al-Mashat described as a key international annual measure of acute multidimensional poverty. The index, which covers over 100 developing countries, assesses poverty across seven key dimensions: education, health, basic services, employment, social protection, food security, and personal safety.
