Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty confirmed that Egypt is actively involved in consultations in New York regarding the deployment of an international stability support force in the Gaza Strip. This engagement is part of Egypt's broader diplomatic efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty's remarks came during a meeting with diplomatic correspondents. He addressed inquiries from the Middle East News Agency (MENA) concerning the latest updates on the deployment discussions in New York. The minister emphasized that Egypt is in daily consultations with the United States, Security Council members, and the Arab group through Algeria, which currently holds an Arab seat on the Security Council. These discussions aim to ensure that any UN decision respects the fundamentals of the Palestinian cause and facilitates the swift deployment of the international force.
Abdelatty highlighted the necessity of reaching a consensus on a well-crafted UN decision that can be practically enforced. He stressed that the Palestinian side must manage its affairs, and the goal is to empower the Palestinian Authority in preparation for the force's deployment. He noted that any arrangements would be temporary until progress is made toward a two-state solution.
The foreign minister also discussed Egypt's preparations for the upcoming Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza Conference. He confirmed that all necessary preparations have been completed and that coordination with various international parties, including the United States, European countries, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, is ongoing. Abdelatty further acknowledged key partners like the United Nations, the World Bank, and the Palestinian government.
In addition to Gaza-related efforts, Abdelatty touched on Egypt's involvement in Sudan's recent developments, emphasizing Egypt's support for Sudan's unity and territorial integrity. He reiterated President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's disapproval of any attempts to divide Sudan or establish parallel entities.
The foreign minister also highlighted Egypt's recent diplomatic achievements, such as its role in ending the war in Gaza, hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, and the successful opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. These events have bolstered Egypt's regional and international standing as a pivotal state advocating for peace and stability.
Addressing the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm stance due to stalled negotiations. He emphasized Egypt's right to protect its interests under international law.
As the first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel nears completion, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's commitment to advancing into the second phase. He stressed the importance of deploying an international force and achieving Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, with ongoing consultations in New York and coordination with all relevant parties.
The minister concluded by stating that disarmament of Hamas is part of the Trump plan, with mutual commitments from both sides. The focus now is on implementing the plan, and a draft Security Council resolution is critical in this regard.
