Cairo: Egypt's under-17 handball team claimed the silver medal at the inaugural IHF Men's U17 World Championship after a narrow 44-43 defeat by Germany in the final on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian team finished the first half trailing 18-17 before taking the lead in the second half. However, Germany managed to level the score at 37-37 with just one second left on the clock to full time.
In the tense extra time, Germany edged out Egypt with a 7-6 score, securing the gold medal in the tournament, which was held in Morocco from October 24 to November 1.
On their path to the final, Egypt won four of their matches, defeating hosts Morocco 32-20, the United States 42-22, and Brazil 35-26 in the preliminary round. They triumphed over Spain 31-28 in the semi-final.
In other tournament results, Spain claimed the bronze medal with a 35-23 victory over Qatar. Argentina finished in fifth place after defeating Brazil 39-27, while Tunisia secured seventh place with a 44-41 win against the United States.
