Cairo: Egypt strongly condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, members of the Knesset, and thousands of Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli police, as well as the accompanying provocative practices, describing them as a flagrant violation of the historic and legal status quo governing the holy site.

According to State Information Service Egypt, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Egypt warned that the continuation of such violations and provocative acts would further inflame tensions, undermine efforts to restore calm and stability, and lead to further escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the wider region, posing threats to regional peace and security.

Egypt reiterated its call on the international community and the United Nations Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities by putting an end to Israeli violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, ensuring respect for the historic and legal status quo, and upholding international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

Egypt stressed that such measures are essential to restoring security and stability and preserving the prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
