Cairo: Egypt on Sunday, July 19, 2026, welcomed the Belgian federal government's decision to ban imports of goods and products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry released a statement indicating that the decision reflects a commitment to justice and the practical implementation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions. This includes UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which affirms that Israeli settlements are illegal and calls for an immediate halt to settlement activity to preserve the prospects for peace and a two-state solution.

Egypt further emphasized its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and urged other European Union member states and the broader international community to emulate Belgium's action by adopting similar legal measures banning products from Israeli settlements.

The statement also highlighted that lasting peace and security in the Middle East can only be achieved by ending the Israeli occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination. This involves the establishment of an independent and sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
