Egypt Backs Stronger African Air Transport Ties at AFI Aviation Week

Victoria Falls: Egypt is pushing for greater integration in Africa's air transport sector and improved global competitiveness in aviation safety, sustainability, and efficiency, Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny said on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Speaking at the 10th Africa-Indian Ocean (AFI) Aviation Week, hosted by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Victoria Falls from May 26 to 30, Minister El-Hefny underscored Egypt's commitment to strengthening regional air connectivity and infrastructure.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the event brought together representatives from more than 40 African nations as well as regional and global aviation organisations. On the sidelines, the Egyptian minister met Zimbabwe's Transport Minister Felix Mhona to discuss technical cooperation in airport development, air safety, training, and knowledge exchange, according to a Cabinet statement.

'Egypt is working to build bridges of cooperation across the continent by sharing expertise and enhancing technical and human capabilities,' Minister El-Hefny said, calling air connectivity a key pillar for Africa's development. Mhona praised Egypt's leadership in civil aviation and its collaboration with ICAO, expressing Zimbabwe's interest in deepening bilateral cooperation to support sustainable development.
