Aswan: Leaders from across Africa and beyond are gathering in Aswan, Egypt, for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, held on 19-20 October under the theme A World in Flux, A Continent in Motion: Navigating Africa's Progress Amid Global Shifts. Hosted in the southern Egyptian city where the Forum first convened in 2019, the high-level platform brings together heads of state, policymakers, and international partners to advance African-led solutions linking peace, security, and development at a time of mounting global uncertainty.According to State Information Service Egypt, since its launch, the Aswan Forum has become the continent's first dedicated platform addressing the peace-security-development (PSD) nexus. This year's edition aims to define Africa's role in navigating global transitions by strengthening regional resilience, deepening integration, and promoting homegrown approaches to peace and prosperity. The 2025 meeting also coincides with major global milestones , including the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN), the 25th anniversary of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (WPS), and the 10th anniversary of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda (YPS).The Forum will highlight inclusivity and the role of women and youth in shaping durable solutions, while addressing emerging priorities such as climate-related security risks, digital transformation, and the role of infrastructure and trade in fostering stability. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has underscored the Forum's significance as an African mechanism for proposing sustainable, integrated responses to the continent's evolving challenges. The Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) serves as the Forum's executive secretariat.Launched in 2019 during Egypt's presidency of the African Union (AU), the Aswan Forum was conceived as an African-owned, action-oriented platform bringing together governments, regional organizations, financial institution s, civil society, and the private sector to translate dialogue into concrete policy and practice. Recognized by the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) as a key mechanism for advancing the peace-security-development nexus, the Forum has, over its four editions, become a reference point for continental policymaking and post-conflict reconstruction efforts.
