Cairo: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat engaged in discussions with UAE Ambassador to Cairo Hamad Al-Zaabi to explore opportunities for enhancing joint cooperation and supporting investments in the fields of electricity and renewable energy. This meeting took place on Monday, August 17, 2026.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Esmat emphasized the profound and unique relationship between Egypt and the UAE, highlighting their longstanding ties and mutual support as an exemplary model of constructive cooperation among Arab nations. The minister acknowledged the active involvement of UAE companies with Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, particularly in the domains of renewable energy and energy diversification.

Esmat pointed out the extensive collaboration and successful partnerships with UAE firms, aligning with Egypt's national energy strategy, which aims to transition towards greater reliance on renewable energy and expand battery-based energy storage systems. He outlined the steps taken to encourage private-sector participation in solar and wind energy projects, as well as initiatives to modernize and enhance the national electricity grid to accommodate new generation capacities.

He reiterated that UAE companies have been key partners in numerous electricity-sector projects, particularly in the renewable energy sphere. Esmat noted that the private sector's involvement is crucial to implementing the electricity sector's strategy, with the government actively supporting and encouraging private investment to play a significant role in the national economy, especially in solar and wind energy projects.

Ambassador Al-Zaabi, in his remarks, praised the Egyptian-UAE relationship as a model for Arab cooperation, citing the deep historical and cultural ties shared by the two countries. He acknowledged the wide-ranging common interests reflected in their partnership across various sectors, including investment and trade.
