Cairo:Egypt and Tunisia have engaged in discussions to bolster cooperation in water resources management, reviewing a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing bilateral ties in this critical area.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions took place during a meeting between Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam and Tunisian Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Ezzeddine Ben Cheikh on the sidelines of the 9th Cairo Water Week.
Sewilam emphasized the strong relationship between the two nations and their mutual commitment to expanding water cooperation. This collaboration is crucial given the limited water resources and increasing demand. He highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise, adopting modern technologies, and rationalizing water use to make the most of available resources.
The meeting addressed common challenges related to water scarcity, focusing on improving irrigation systems, enhancing water-use efficiency, expanding water treatment and reuse, and employing modern technological solutions to support water and food security.
Both parties reviewed the proposed MoU, discussing priority cooperation areas and mechanisms for implementing joint activities, such as technical exchanges and capacity building. These efforts are intended to strengthen ties between water resource institutions in both countries.
The discussions aim to advance Egyptian-Tunisian cooperation and promote sustainable water resource management to tackle current and future challenges effectively.
