Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and his Tanzanian counterpart Mahmoud Thabit Kombo discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on issues of mutual interest on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nader Zaki noted that the two ministers welcomed the growing momentum in bilateral relations. This momentum was highlighted by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Tanzania last July, as well as the participation of the Egyptian prime minister in the inauguration of the Julius Nyerere Dam. This dam, implemented by Egyptian companies in Tanzania, stands as a successful model of strategic partnership between the two countries.

Abdelatty extended an invitation to Tanzania to participate in the Alamein Africa Forum, which is scheduled to be held in New Alamein from October 2-4. This forum will take place on the sidelines of the eighth mid-year coordination meeting of the African Union.

Addressing water security, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of cooperation and integration along the Nile to achieve common benefits and shared interests. He stressed the need to uphold the spirit of consensus and brotherhood to restore inclusiveness to the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), while firmly rejecting unilateral measures.

Abdelatty also welcomed positive developments in the NBI's consultative process. He noted that these developments are aimed at restoring inclusiveness in accordance with international law, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of all Nile Basin countries.
