Cairo: Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem on Thursday, July 9, 2026, discussed with a delegation of China's Jiangsu Changhong Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. (Changhong Smart), led by Chairwoman Qiu Yunjie, the company's plans to establish a $20 million industrial complex in Egypt to support the country's automotive industry through smart manufacturing solutions. The meeting was attended by Mohamed Samy, Assistant Minister for Strategic Affairs, Alaa Salah El-Din, head of the Automotive Unit at the Ministry of Industry, and other ministry officials.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Chinese company outlined plans to establish an advanced industrial complex based on the latest smart manufacturing technologies. The project would provide integrated solutions for the automotive industry, including production-line equipment, intelligent industrial software systems, and consultancy services for factory planning and design, to strengthen Egypt's automotive manufacturing infrastructure.
Hashem emphasized that the automotive industry and its supporting sectors are top priorities for the government. He elaborated on the ministry's comprehensive strategy to move beyond vehicle assembly to full-scale manufacturing, aiming to increase local content and enhance the value added by the domestic industry. The minister highlighted the goal of attracting leading global automakers and companies specializing in advanced manufacturing technologies to help build an integrated industrial ecosystem, positioning Egypt as a regional hub for automotive manufacturing and exports.
The minister added that the government's efforts extend to technology transfer, building local capabilities, and training Egyptian professionals in industrial engineering, smart manufacturing, and digital transformation. He described human capital as a key pillar of sustainable industrial development. Hashem also pointed out Egypt's attractive investment environment, strategic geographic location, improving infrastructure, a network of trade agreements, and the availability of qualified engineering and technical talent, which enhances the competitiveness of the country's industrial sector.
He reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to attracting investments in smart manufacturing and advanced industrial technologies to facilitate the transfer of global expertise, increase local content, and support the localization of high-value-added industries.
Qiu Yunjie expressed the company's appreciation for the progress achieved in Egypt's industrial sector and investment climate. She conveyed Jiangsu Changhong's interest in expanding its presence in the Egyptian market through a long-term partnership focused on technology transfer, sharing technical expertise, and training local engineering talent. Qiu mentioned the company's aim to cooperate with academic institutions, research centers, and technology innovation hubs while leveraging artificial intelligence and digital transformation technologies to develop advanced industrial solutions, supporting the future of Egypt's manufacturing sector and enhancing the competitiveness of its automotive industry.
