Egypt and Japan Explore Educational Partnership Enhancements

Cairo:Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif emphasized the robust partnership between Egypt and Japan in the field of education, highlighting Japan as Egypt's primary strategic ally in this area.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister's remarks came during a meeting with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation, sharing expertise, and developing the education system. The meeting, which took place on Monday, October 12, 2026, included several officials from both the ministry and the agency.

The minister noted that the ministry aims to adapt successful Japanese educational practices to fit the needs of Egyptian schools, creating a sustainable educational model. This cooperation with JICA is seen as a pivotal part of efforts to advance the education system, offering opportunities for exchanging expertise, training teachers, developing school leadership, and integrating exceptional educational practices into public schools.

Discussions also focused on the Egyptian-Japanese Schools system, which currently includes 103 schools across the nation. These institutions blend the Egyptian curriculum with Japan's Tokkatsu activities, which are designed to shape students' personalities, enhance their skills and values, and promote teamwork, discipline, and responsibility.

Further talks examined strengthening teacher preparation and training in collaboration with Japanese universities, particularly Hiroshima University. This includes scholarships and practical training programs for teachers to gain direct experience with Japanese teaching methods and school management systems.

The meeting underscored the importance of expanding these training programs to encompass newly recruited teachers, providing them with a solid professional foundation in Japanese educational philosophy. Additionally, the role of Japanese experts and supervisors in supporting the Egyptian-Japanese Schools was discussed, with plans to increase their numbers to support the network's expansion while maintaining quality.

The minister stressed that Japanese experts should extend their support beyond the Egyptian-Japanese Schools to include training teams of teachers and leaders who can disseminate this expertise to other schools, ensuring a lasting impact on Egypt's general education system.
