Egypt and GEIDCO Explore Enhancements in Global Power Grid and Clean Energy Cooperation

Cairo: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat engaged in discussions with Liu Zhenya, Chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), focusing on the expansion of global power interconnection projects. These efforts aim to meet the growing electricity demand through clean energy sources while aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place during Esmat's participation in the Shanghai Conference on Renewable Energy, Clean Energy Solutions, and Energy Transition in China. The discussions centered around enhancing cooperation and partnerships to optimize renewable energy use, improve energy efficiency, and support electricity interconnection projects.

The minister highlighted GEIDCO's crucial role in advancing global power interconnection, supporting smart grid initiatives, and promoting training and capacity building in developing countries. The dialogue also included plans to connect electricity networks across Asia, Africa, and Europe, establishing an alliance for electricity interconnection and sustainable development in Africa.

Additionally, the talks covered the transfer of expertise in energy storage, strengthening cross-continental infrastructure, accelerating clean energy distribution projects, and promoting joint development. Esmat stressed that interconnection projects with neighboring countries are fundamental to Egypt's strategy of supporting its power grid and positioning the nation as a regional energy hub, connecting energy markets across Africa, Europe, and Asia.
