Egypt and EBRD Explore Expansion of Energy Partnership to Include Mining Cooperation

Cairo: Egypt and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) are exploring ways to broaden their strategic partnership in the energy sector to include mining cooperation, the petroleum ministry announced.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions took place on the sidelines of the Energy Intelligence Forum 2025. Key figures in the talks included Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy, Natalia Lacorzana, EBRD's Global Head of Natural Resources, and Gianpiero Nacci, the bank's Managing Director for Climate Strategy and Delivery.

The discussions concentrated on Egypt's ongoing mining sector reforms, which are aimed at improving the investment climate. A planned aerial and geophysical survey project for mineral exploration was identified as a potential area of collaboration with the EBRD.

The meeting also covered joint efforts on energy efficiency, decarbonisation, sustainable aviation fuels, electric vehicles, and methane emissions reduction.
