Cairo: Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ahmed Rostom, recently emphasized the government's commitment to bolstering national companies in fintech and digital services, aligning with political directives to enhance digital services for citizens both domestically and internationally, and modernize the administrative framework of the state.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Rostom's remarks came during a meeting with Essa Kazim, Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Chairman of the Board of DP World. This meeting was part of a series of discussions with key figures and representatives from regional and international entities in Dubai, UAE, coinciding with the 15th AIM Congress.
The discussions focused on exploring collaboration opportunities and opening new investment avenues in logistics and digital financial services. Rostom highlighted the potential for increased investment in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and expanding partnerships with DP World, a prominent Emirati multinational logistics company based in Dubai. The aim is to leverage the strategic benefits of the economic zone and enhance partner port infrastructure to boost regional and international trade.
Rostom also showcased Egypt's progress in digital transformation and electronic financial transactions. He pointed to Sahel, a company specializing in digital solutions and bill payments, which benefits from contributions by the National Investment Bank as part of the state's development initiatives. The discussion included steps for Sahel's registration with the DIFC, aimed at expanding its regional operations and offering secure electronic bill-payment services to Egyptians residing in the UAE.
Concluding the meeting, Rostom underscored the importance of collaboration with major financial and logistics institutions like the DIFC and DP World. Such partnerships are seen as pivotal for economic integration, knowledge exchange, and attracting targeted investments, all contributing to sustainable development goals.
