N'djamena: Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir reaffirmed the robust and longstanding relationship between Egypt and Chad during the fourth session of the Egyptian-Chadian Joint Committee meetings in N'Djamena. El-Wazir emphasized the mutual commitment of both nations to expand bilateral cooperation, highlighting the importance of shared political will in serving the common interests of their peoples.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was attended by a significant Egyptian delegation, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and other high-ranking officials and business leaders. The Chadian representation included Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul and several other ministers. El-Wazir conveyed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's greetings to Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, reiterating Egypt's focus on fostering closer ties with African nations, especially Chad, to enhance economic integration and support development goals across the continent.
El-Wazir outlined the ongoing implementation of the Eighth International Development Logistics Corridor, a massive infrastructure project stretching nearly 4,300 kilometers from Berenice in Egypt to Douala in Cameroon, passing through Chad. The corridor, which will significantly reduce freight transport time between Egypt and Chad, is expected to transform continental trade dynamics by linking East and West Africa and is seen as a strategic priority amid rapid global economic and geopolitical changes.
The corridor's development is part of a larger integrated infrastructure system, featuring key components such as the Berenice seaport, logistics zones, dry ports, and the Al Kufra land port. It will also integrate with Egypt's electric high-speed rail network, enhancing regional connectivity and positioning both Egypt and Chad as pivotal hubs for trade and logistics in Africa.
El-Wazir highlighted the establishment of a joint-stock company named "The Great Corridor," a collaborative initiative involving the Tahya Misr Fund, the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports, and Lupo Giardino Investment Company. This venture exemplifies the potential for investment cooperation and economic integration between the two countries.
The minister's visit aligns with President El-Sisi's directives and serves to follow up on outcomes from previous Egyptian-Chadian summits, including the November 2025 meeting in Cairo. El-Wazir emphasized that major Egyptian companies, with their expertise in infrastructure, transport, energy, and other vital sectors, are poised to contribute significantly to Chad's development vision.
