Cairo: Acting Minister of Culture and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa and Angolan Culture Minister Filipe Silvino de Pina Zau have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cultural and artistic ties between Egypt and Angola. The agreement was finalized on Saturday, September 19, 2026, during discussions held at the Culture Ministry in Cairo, aimed at fostering cultural relations between the two nations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the five-year agreement, which is subject to automatic renewal, encompasses collaboration in various cultural domains such as literature, translation, publishing, cinema, performing arts, visual arts, handicrafts, cultural heritage, and intellectual property. The memorandum also outlines provisions for joint exhibitions, seminars, conferences, and cultural events, alongside cooperation between art institutes, writers' and artists' unions, archives, and other cultural institutions.

Furthermore, the agreement focuses on exchanging expertise in cultural heritage preservation and offers training programs in cultural management and library sciences. Abdelaziz Konsowa highlighted the potential of the agreement to broaden opportunities for artists, writers, and cultural institutions in both countries. He extended an invitation to Angolan publishers to participate in the 58th Cairo International Book Fair, set for January 2027, to bolster literary and publishing exchanges.

The signing of this agreement coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Angola. During his visit, the Angolan minister also took part in the unveiling of a bust of Angola's first president, Agostinho Neto, at Al-Horreya Garden in Cairo's Zamalek district.
