Egypt and Angola Condemn Israeli Recognition of Somaliland and Support Sudan Unity

Addis ababa: Egypt and Angola expressed strong condemnation of Israel's recognition of the Somali breakaway region of Somaliland, calling it a violation of international law, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Angolan counterpart, T©te Ant³nio, met on Sunday, 15 February, 2026, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) summit. During their talks, they warned that Israel's Somaliland recognition threatens Somalia's sovereignty and undermines the security of the Red Sea and freedom of navigation, the statement read.

Both ministers also emphasized the importance of maintaining Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Moreover, Abdelatty praised Angola's efforts to end the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. He reaffirmed Egypt's support for mediation efforts under the Doha and Washington tracks, particularly through the African Union Centre for Post-conflict Reconstruction and Development.
