Egypt and Algeria Discuss Strategies to Enhance Bilateral Relations

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty engaged in discussions with his Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf to explore strategies for strengthening the bilateral relations between the two nations. Abdelatty lauded the 9th session of the Egyptian-Algerian joint higher committee held in Cairo from November 23 to 26, which resulted in the signing of 18 cooperation documents, a joint economic forum, and a business council meeting. These initiatives indicate a mutual political will to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty stressed the importance of following up on the committee's outcomes and maintaining regular meetings to benefit both countries. The ministers also discussed regional developments, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's efforts to sustain a ceasefire, implement the second phase of the US President's plan, and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. He emphasized the need for early recovery and reconstruction, while opposing actions that undermine Palestinian territorial integrity.

Additionally, the meeting covered the situation in Libya, with both sides supporting a "Libyan-Libyan" solution and the activation of the Tripartite Mechanism between Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia. This mechanism aims to unify Libyan institutions, withdraw foreign forces, and prepare for elections to restore stability and sovereignty in Libya. Abdelatty emphasized the importance of continued bilateral coordination due to the shared views of Cairo and Algiers on regional and international issues.

The ministers also underscored the significance of enhancing Egypt-Algeria coordination within African frameworks, pledging support for stability and development across the continent. They emphasized respect for the sovereignty of African nations, rejection of external interference, and the exploration of joint development projects. Both sides committed to continued coordination and consultation to support regional stability and common interests, reflecting the deep historic ties between Egypt and Algeria.
