Cairo:Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) Chairperson Mona Rizk signed a contract with Wadi El Nile Contracting and Real Estate Investments to bolster the national grid with a new 500-kilovolt overhead transmission line. This line is intended to carry wind power generated in the Gulf of Suez.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the project is part of Egypt's plan to expand electricity generation from renewable sources, aiming to increase their share of the electricity mix from approximately 18% currently to 45% by 2028.
The contract, covering Lot 4 under the Canal Electricity Zone, involves constructing a 500-kV, double-circuit overhead transmission line using four AAAC conductors. The line will span approximately 66 kilometers, beginning at the end of Lot 3 and extending toward the Sixth of October transformer substation. It is designed to transmit electricity generated by wind power projects in the Gulf of Suez, with completion expected within 12 months.
This initiative is part of EETC's broader plan to enhance and improve the efficiency of the unified national grid. The goal is to accommodate additional renewable energy capacity, maximize clean energy use, and support the stability and sustainability of electricity supplies, aligning with the state's energy targets. Rizk emphasized EETC's commitment to accelerating the implementation of such transmission projects to support the state's renewable energy goals.
