Chinese Firm to Build $20m Bag Factory in Egypt’s SCZone

Cairo: The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has signed an agreement with COMFILY Hong Kong Co., Ltd to establish an integrated industrial complex for bag manufacturing in the West Qantara industrial zone.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Chinese company, which specialises in producing bags, fabrics, and accessories, will invest $20 million, equivalent to approximately 1 billion Egyptian pounds, in the project. The industrial complex will cover an area of 80,000 square meters.

The facility aims to produce over 22 million items annually, with 80 percent destined for export and the remaining 20 percent for the local market. Operations at the facility are projected to begin by the end of 2026.

COMFILY is affiliated with the Chinese firm Henneway Travel Products, and both companies are owned by the same investor. In addition to the bag manufacturing plant, a second factory for branded luggage production, including items for well-known brands such as Samsonite, will also be established within the same complex.

This new facility will complement an existing plant currently under construction, which is scheduled for trial operations by the end of 2025, with full-scale production expected to commence in early 2026.
