Capital International Airport Joins European Flight Network

Cairo: As part of Egypt’s efforts to boost air travel and tourism, Capital International Airport welcomed its first direct flight from Bratislava, Slovakia, on Thursday, June 8, 2025. The flight, operated by Smartwings aboard a Boeing B737/800, carried 152 passengers, marking the launch of a regular air route between the two countries for the summer season.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the new service includes one weekly flight every Wednesday, with a total of 23 flights scheduled until October 31. The development signals a significant step toward increasing European tourist inflow and enhancing cooperation with international carriers using Egypt’s modern airports.

Capital International Airport, one of the country’s newest aviation hubs, boasts a contemporary design, a runway capable of handling large aircraft, and a passenger terminal accommodating over 300 travelers per hour. Strategically located near major roads serving the New Administrative Capital and surrounding cities, the airport is poised to become a key gateway for international travel.

Minister of Civil Aviation Dr. Sameh El-Hefny stated: ‘We are committed to expanding air traffic and attracting more tourists to Egypt. Capital International Airport will serve as a new entry point for European markets, with more direct routes expected from various capitals shortly.’
