Cairo University Achieves High Rankings in Arab Research Impact and Citations

Cairo:Cairo University has been recognized for its significant research contributions, ranking second in the Arab world for research impact and fifth for citations of research by affiliated scholars, as reported in the 2026 annual report of the Arab Citation and Impact Factor (Arcif).

According to State Information Service Egypt, the report highlights that Cairo University is among the top 10 Arab universities and research institutions based on these indicators. The university's performance is attributed to the quality and diversity of research published in its 26 peer-reviewed scientific journals, several of which have received advanced rankings in their respective fields.

The report states that Cairo University achieved fifth place among 1,448 universities and scientific institutions in the citation indicator, with 12,643 citations for 3,119 articles published in Arabic. Furthermore, the university was ranked second among 519 institutions for the research impact of articles, with 20,919 citations for 4,196 articles published in its journals.

Arcif's 2026 report evaluated 1,303 peer-reviewed journals in the Arab world against 32 criteria. A comprehensive analysis involved over 5,600 journals, 413,000 Arab authors, and more than 1.07 million articles and papers.

Specific journals at Cairo University also stood out in various fields. The Journal of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science ranked first in the Arab world for its impact factor in economics, finance, business administration, and political science. In media and communications, the Egyptian Journal of Media Research and other related journals achieved top rankings. In library and information science, the Scientific Journal of Libraries, Documents and Information ranked first, with other journals also performing well in their categories.
