Cabinet Approves Four Renewable Energy Projects by Kemet

Cairo: The Cabinet approved during its weekly meeting on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the implementation of four energy projects by Kemet Industries Group, the executive arm of the United Egypt Group for National Industries. The projects include two solar power plants in Bahariya Oasis with capacities of 320 megawatts and 400 megawatts, a 2,000-megawatt-hour standalone battery storage facility in Nagaa Hammadi, and a 2,000-megawatt solar power plant in the same area.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Cabinet also authorized moving forward with agreements among Kemet, the New and Renewable Energy Authority, and the Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development for land usufruct rights, as well as between Kemet and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company for power purchase and grid connection.

The projects are scheduled for completion and operation in 2027, with payments in Egyptian pounds and commitments to support local renewable energy industries.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved licensing procedures for a new 66 kV substation in New Fayoum City, and authorized contracts for Menoufia University to complete its Faculty of Dentistry building and for the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries to upgrade its branches and research stations.
