Abu dhabi: Israel must implement its commitments under the Gaza peace roadmap for the process to move forward, Nickolay Mladenov, high representative for Gaza at the Board of Peace, said on Monday, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.According to Nam News Network, Mladenov made these remarks at the third Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi, highlighting that while some progress had been achieved over the past year, the situation remained inadequate for achieving a political solution. "We are still at the point at which we need to make sure that what has been agreed is going to be implemented and is going to change significantly the lives of the people in Gaza," Mladenov stated. However, he acknowledged that the parties involved had not yet reached this crucial stage.Mladenov further explained that discussions with Israel were ongoing regarding their commitments, which entail withdrawal in exchange for Hamas's disarmament and the commencement of reconstruction efforts in the Palestinian enclave. He mentioned that negotiation s with Hamas on disarmament had been intense and difficult but acknowledged the mediation efforts of Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar, along with support from the UAE and other regional countries.Expressing concern over the dire conditions faced by Gazans, Mladenov emphasized the urgency of change, particularly with another winter approaching. He outlined three potential paths forward: maintaining the current situation, expanding Israeli military operations and reoccupying Gaza, or implementing the Board of Peace roadmap. He advocated for the third option, describing it as the most reasonable, requiring disarmament by agreement, an agreed Israeli withdrawal, and reconstruction with international and regional support.Mladenov warned that failure to advance the roadmap could render the two-state solution practically impossible. He stressed the importance of transitional governance, decommissioning of weapons, and withdrawal in Gaza to rebuild the path towards peace.The Board of Peace, established in January as pa rt of US President Donald Trump's broader plan for Gaza, is chaired by Trump and backed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803. It is tasked with overseeing Gaza's transition, including governance, security, and reconstruction. A Palestinian technocratic body, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, was also created to manage civilian administration, restore public services, and rebuild institutions in the enclave.The roadmap issued by the Board of Peace on July 31 outlines the next phase of the Gaza plan, including Hamas disarmament, a phased Israeli withdrawal, transfer of administration to the Palestinian technocratic committee, deployment of an international stabilization force, and reconstruction.The third Hili Forum is being held in Abu Dhabi under the theme "Gulf at Crossroads: Conflict, Consequences and Course Correction," co-organized by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research and the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy.
