Cairo: Grand Imam of al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb met with Saudi Ambassador to Egypt Saleh bin Eid al Husseini to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between al Azhar and religious institutions in Saudi Arabia. The meeting took place on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

According to State Information Service Egypt, El Tayyeb emphasized the strong and historical ties between al Azhar and Saudi Arabia, highlighting the importance of ongoing coordination to address the challenges facing the Islamic world. He also condemned attacks targeting civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries.

The Saudi ambassador expressed appreciation for al Azhar's role in promoting moderation and discussed regional developments. Both parties explored ways to expand cooperation in religious and academic fields.
