Gaza:Cairo Al-Azhar has issued a stark warning about an impending humanitarian disaster that threatens hundreds of patients, including the wounded and infants in intensive care and incubators, across hospitals in the Gaza Strip.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the warning comes in response to alarming statements from the Palestinian Ministry of Health regarding the exhaustion of fuel and oil reserves necessary for hospital generators. Al-Azhar has highlighted that the deliberate cutting off of energy to these medical facilities equates to a collective death sentence for innocent civilians and amounts to a war crime, violating international laws and conventions.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Al-Azhar urged the international community, along with the United Nations and humanitarian organizations, to take full responsibility in addressing the ongoing silence surrounding the siege. The organization warned that transforming hospitals from places of healing into mass graves would be a stain on humanity's conscience and signify explicit complicity.
Al-Azhar called for immediate international action to pressure the occupation to open humanitarian corridors and permit the unrestricted entry of essential supplies. The organization appealed to the Arab and Islamic worlds, the international community, and all those with a living conscience to act swiftly to rescue the healthcare system in the enclave and end the siege.
Furthermore, Al-Azhar praised the resilience of medical staff and paramedics in Gaza, who continue to demonstrate exceptional bravery and sacrifice amid the ongoing crisis.
