Cairo:The Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD), in collaboration with its educational arm WMC-EF, is set to activate cooperation agreements with prominent British institutions. This move will initiate joint projects in healthcare, higher education, and scientific research within Egypt's New Capital.
According to State Information Service Egypt, ACUD Chairman and Managing Director Khaled Abbas conducted a series of meetings with delegations from British institutions throughout October. These discussions focused on reviewing existing agreements and finalizing arrangements for launching the planned projects.
The British delegations included representatives from Moorfields Eye Hospital, University College London Hospitals (UCLH), University Hospital Southampton, and Brunel University London. The meetings also covered collaborations with British entities specializing in public health, medical and veterinary sciences, agriculture, and environmental sciences.
Under the signed agreements, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) will establish a regional center of excellence in public health and health research, while Cardiff University will assist in developing continuing medical education and postgraduate programs in Egypt.
ACUD is finalizing agreements with the Royal Veterinary College, Scotland's Rural College, the Royal Agricultural University, and Brunel University London. These partnerships will focus on veterinary sciences, agriculture, environmental sciences, engineering, and technology, emphasizing applied research and aligning education with labor market demands.
The healthcare collaborations will leverage the expertise of British institutions in medical services, training, and research. Moorfields Eye Hospital, with over 200 years of experience in ophthalmology and eye surgery, and UCLH, known for its advanced healthcare and research, are key partners. University Hospital Southampton contributes its expertise in specialized care, medical training, clinical research, and treatment development.
The broader cooperation agenda aims to develop academic and professional programs, expand postgraduate studies and specialized training, and promote applied research and knowledge exchange. These efforts seek to enhance human capacities and address the needs of Egypt's healthcare, education, agriculture, and environmental sectors.
ACUD stated that the partnerships, developed in cooperation with WMC-EF, demonstrate its commitment to attracting specialized international institutions and diversifying activities and services in the New Capital. The initiatives aim to facilitate knowledge transfer, localize expertise, and attract investment in key sectors, thereby supporting the development of advanced services and sustainable growth.
