World largest single-cluster intelligent computing center put into use in Harbin

Heilongjiang: The world largest single-cluster intelligent computing center, China Mobile Intelligent Computing Center, came into operation on Friday in Harbin, capital city of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province.

According to a report by China Central Television (CCTV), the facility, which boasts approximately 18,000 AI acceleration cards and a computing power of 6.9 EFLOPS, possesses the largest computing power scale for a single cluster as well as the most extensive network of domestically-produced network equipment.

The intelligent computing center integrates all AI accelerator cards into one cluster to support the training of large models with trillions of parameters.

Using advanced smart computing network technology to connect thousands of GPU chips like “building blocks,” the center significantly enhances communication efficiency between GPU nodes and reduces the time to complete data training by 20 percent, thus forming a super computing power cluster.

“It has a computing capacity equivalent t
o that of over three million high-performance PC per second. The single cluster boasts the capacity of a group and reduces transmission time, meaning that the facility can effectively complete the computing task for an entire group within itself,” said Yan Wen, project manager of planning and construction department under China Mobile’s Heilongjiang company.
