‘We are determined to propel UAE to the forefront of global media industry,’ says Abdulla Al Hamed, while visiting Dubai Media City


DUBAI: Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office (NMO) and Chairman of the UAE Media Council, said that thanks to its visionary leadership, the UAE boasts advanced infrastructure and a supportive legal environment, creating a thriving hub for major global media platforms, startups, and content creation that attracts international investment.

Emphasising the UAE’s position as a magnet for international media and a launchpad for startups, Sheikh Abdulla explained that the UAE Media Council collaborates closely with local media organisations and free zones to develop adaptable policies that stay current with global media trends. These policies, he further clarified, are designed to empower media companies and creatives, foster the expansion of the UAE’s media scene, and generate high-calibre media content that solidifies the nation’s standing on the international media stage.

“The UAE’s media sector is experiencing a growth surge, and we’re leading the charge by crafting forwa
rd-thinking plans to propel its development.”

Sheikh Abdulla made the statements during a visit to Dubai Media City, in the presence of Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of UAE Media Council; Malek Al Malek, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding Asset Management (DHAM); Maitha Majed Al Suwaidi, CEO of Strategy and Media Policy at the UAE Media Council; Abdulla Belhoul, Chief Executive Officer of TECOM Group; and Majed Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President at TECOM Group; along with a number of officials.

Sheikh Abdulla toured a number of media startups operating at in5, an enabling platform for entrepreneurs and startups, that are working on developing new, innovative media products and services. He commended the role startups play in boosting the national economy, driving innovation and exporting creative products from the UAE to the world.

Sheikh Abdulla also reviewed TECOM Group’s track record and its contribution to fostering Dubai’s knowledge economy. By focusing on six key sectors – informat
ion technology, media, science, education, design, and industry – TECOM Group has helped position Dubai as a global hub for businesses and talent.

Dubai Media City is a pivotal force driving Dubai’s ambitious media and content creation strategy. As the region’s largest media hub, it houses over 2,500 media entities, fostering a thriving community of more than 20,000 employees and entrepreneurs.
