WB: Egypt hosting of COP27 boosts country’s regional leadership toward green economy transition

Managing Director for Operations at the World Bank (WB) Axel van Trotsenburg congratulated Egypt on its success in winning the hosting of the UN 2022 Climate Change Conference COP27, saying it reflects the leading role Egypt plays in the file of transformation to a green economy.

Trotsenburg’s remarks came amid a virtual meeting Friday with Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation and Governor of Egypt at the WB Group Rania el-Mashat, along with key WB officials as they discussed joint cooperation, along with ongoing projects in support of country’s development agenda. He added that Egypt is the first country in the region to participate with the Bank Group in outlining the climate change strategy, through joint cooperation in preparing the country’s climate and development report.

The report is considered a role model by many other countries, especially in light of the group’s work to mobilize the necessary funds to support the green transformation agenda, he added.Meantime, Trotsenburg said supporting countries in reforming the health system to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic and providing the necessary vaccine for all citizens is on the group’s priority list at the present time, thus the group is fully prepared to back Egypt’s efforts in this regard.Mashsat probed with WB leaders the country’s national efforts to recover from the Covis-19 pandemic, preparations for the new school season by providing vaccine for workers in the school education and higher education sectors, as well as starting the manufacture and exportation of vaccines, in a way that would enhance efforts of the international community to expand access to coronavirus vaccines.
