ABU DHABI: The Emirates News Agency (WAM) has participated in a discussion session titled “Media and Promotion of Human Fraternity”, organised by the Muslim Council of Elders as part of its participation in the 33rd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2024 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
During the session, Mohamed Jalal Alrayssi, Director-General of WAM, emphasised the crucial role of the media and its institutional and societal responsibilities in promoting the values of tolerance, peace, coexistence, and harmony among all segments and individuals of society, highlighting the necessity of confronting discourses of discrimination, hatred, extremism, and racism.
He underscored the profound commitment that the leadership and government of the UAE have towards advancing the principles of human brotherhood and universal ideals, irrespective of origin, colour, race, religion, or creed. In this context, he highlighted numerous groundbreaking humanitarian initiatives and programmes initiated by
the UAE for the betterment of the global community.
For his part, Abdou Gadallah, Group Editorial Director at International Media Investments (IMI), emphasised the significance of fostering press, radio, television, and digital initiatives that contribute positively and consistently to reinforcing the pivotal role of media in promoting values of respect and acceptance towards others.
He addressed the current global tensions, particularly amidst rapid technological advancements, stressing the need to counter the production of politically and ideologically biased content that poses threats to international security and societal stability.
