Planning Minister Hala Saeed said the vision of Egypt’s presidency of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) aims to ensure the world’s quick and effective green transition, while taking into consideration the needs of developing countries and the conditions in Africa.
She made the remarks on Thursday 13/10/2022 during a meeting held within the framework of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank meetings in Washington.
She said the meetings come at a watershed stage as the world is witnessing unprecedented developments.
She added that the only way to overcome the current difficulties is fruitful negotiations among all parties on the current crises, future expectations and needed policies.
She added that the IMF is a long-term partner to Egypt since the launch of the first stage of the national program for social and economic reform program.
She referred to the IMF’s hailing of the Egyptian government’s efforts to maintain macro economic stability despite the coronavirus pandemic fallout.
She noted that a “solutions day” will be organized during the COP27 in addition to days for financing, energy and cutting carbon emissions.
She added that the ministry will launch two key initiatives during the conference under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
The first initiative is Decent Life for Africa for climate change adaptation. This initiative will build on the success of Egypt’s Decent Life initiative, she said.
The second initiative is greening national investment plans in Africa and developing countries, she said, noting that a green hydrogen framework agreement will be inked during COP27.
