US Official Commends Egypt’s “Golden Age” Initiative for Social Care.


Cairo: Marianne Nazzaro, the Deputy Assistant Secretary from the Office of Public Housing Investments at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, praised Egypt’s initiatives in social care and the integration of vulnerable populations, especially the elderly, through the “Golden Age” initiative launched by the Social Solidarity Ministry.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Nazzaro expressed her admiration for Egypt’s efforts during statements made to MENA on Tuesday. She was part of a US delegation at the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) held from November 4 to 8 in Cairo. Nazzaro emphasized that sustainable community development and support for low-income families are significant priorities for the United States.

During the Forum, Nazzaro moderated a roundtable on senior citizens alongside Abla el Alfi, the Deputy Minister of Health and Population for Population Affairs and Family Development. She highlighted her appreciation for Egypt’s “Golden Age” initiative, which aims
to connect elderly Egyptians with foundlings, offering mutual support. Nazzaro also commended Egypt’s professional organization of the WUF.

The WUF12, organized by UN-Habitat in Cairo, represented an important step in global efforts to create sustainable and inclusive urban environments. Over five days, more than 24,000 participants from 182 countries attended, with an impressive 92 percent participating in person, reflecting a strong global commitment to addressing urban challenges collectively.

This year’s theme, “It all starts at home: Local actions for sustainable cities and communities,” united leaders, innovators, and advocates from diverse sectors, all dedicated to building resilient and equitable cities capable of meeting future needs. The Forum facilitated dynamic discussions, partnerships, and actionable commitments to tackle critical urban issues, including climate change, rapid urbanization, affordable housing, and urban equity.
