UNICEF appeals for $105 million for Lebanese children

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) issued an urgent appeal on Tuesday to raise $105 million in the next three months for children and families in Lebanon amid Israeli air strikes.

The dangerous escalation of the conflict in Lebanon led to a deterioration in the conditions and needs of children beyond the capacity of humanitarian agencies to respond immediately through life-saving interventions, UNICEF said in a statement, quoted by the National Lebanese News Agency.

It said that needs in Lebanon accelerated at a faster pace, calling on the international community to urgently increase humanitarian aid and ensure roads are open to deliver assistance and essential supplies to children who need it most.

UNICEF Representative in Lebanon Edouard Beigbeder warned of the “catastrophic” consequences of the escalation of hostilities for all children in Lebanon, adding that countless children are in real danger, exposed to ongoing attacks and forced displacement, and unable to depend on the exhausted health
care system.
