The United Nations today called for a “full investigation” and accountability for the killing of a Turkish-US activist by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank.

“I can tell you that we would want to see a full investigation of the circumstances and that people should be held accountable,’ the UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a news conference as reported by Turkish news agency TRT World.

Dujarric emphasized that ‘civilians must be protected at all times.’

Responding to a question on whether there had been any accountability for UN personnel killed by Israel, he replied, ‘We have not seen any developments in that regard.’

He noted that investigations measures are expected to take place ‘once the fighting ceases,’ while acknowledging that Israel has not investigated killings of civilians.
