Amman: UN Humanitarian Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Muhannad Hadi Wednesday said the main challenge in Gaza is public order, in addition to logistics issues.
During a press conference after a UN Security Council meeting on Gaza, Hadi said he had met many people in Gaza and discussed the suffering of women who have been displaced and refugees in schools, adding that women suffer from the lack of privacy.
He added, ‘We need to listen to people, especially the most vulnerable like women and children in this case. There are a lot of elderly people and people with special needs who no one talks about. There are unaccompanied children; more than 17000 unaccompanied children in Gaza.’
Hadi said the UN has concerns about settler violence in the occupied West Bank, adding, ‘All eyes should be on Gaza, but we should not wait for the West Bank to become another Gaza.’
He said the UN is determined to support the Palestinian people in Gaza and to help in the reconstruction efforts in Gaza after the wa
r, adding that with the absence of a political solution the only solution is the humanitarian solution.
