GENEVA: Switzerland has invited UN Security Council member states to participate in a meeting in Geneva on 25th and 26th August to mark the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions.
The meeting aims to highlight the importance of international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians in an armed conflict in light of the Geneva Conventions adopted 75 years ago, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said in a statement distributed in Geneva.
The occasion includes a symbolic ceremony at the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG), during which Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis will deliver a speech in the presence of representatives of the participating countries.
