The United Nations Human Rights Office in the occupied Palestinian territories Saturday condemned the use of force by Israeli occupation forces during military operations in the occupied Palestinian West Bank.
The office issued a statement calling for an immediate end to the Israeli attacks in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, accusing the Israeli forces of “unlawful” killing in the Jenin refugee camp and neighbouring parts of the city.
The statement says the Israeli operation led to insecurity for Palestinian residents and massive destruction of the camp, which is home to more than 11,000 Palestinians.
The office explained that at the time of issuing the statement, Israeli security forces had killed 12 Palestinians in Jenin and the surrounding areas, including five who were killed in airstrikes and seven who were gunned down.
The office said the use of weapons and military tactics by the Israeli occupation forces would lead to an escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank, noting th
at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) described Israel’s presence in the occupied Palestinian territories as illegal and called on Israel to withdraw.
