The British Department of Defence Friday announced that British and Swedish warplanes intercepted two Russian military planes that were flying near the airspace of NATO and Sweden on Thursday evening. The Department stated that “Typhoon” planes of the British Royal Air Force and “Gripen” planes of the Swedish Air Force had intercepted a Su-27-Flanker fighter plane and an Il-20 reconnaissance plane belonging to the Russian forces. NATO said that UK aircraft were deployed as part of the alliance’s air surveillance mission over the Baltics, known as the Baltic Air Police Mission.
